(français plus bas) EN - I have been playing with mud quite a lot during the spring and summer ! I discovered there is quite a lot of clay in my garden and decided to try to purify it... to then make spinning whorls and other useful little things in pottery. Maybe even weights for a vertical loom if I have enough ! I have to say I'm a total beginner in pottery. So first was the cleansing of the clay, and this was really long ! I had to mix it with water and filter it, to take away the big impurities... and then let it rest so the clay goes in the bottom of the jar and the water can be poured out. The kitchen has been a muddy mess for months ! I had a lot of fun though. I also went to a little river nearby my village and gathered some clay there aswell, and it was interesting to see how different this clay was from my garden's. I got two beautiful balls of pure clay and now I'm on the long process to form it into different things (as said, I'm a total beginner, and I discover how hard it is for me to get something looking not too bad), and then let them dry slowly. They will be burned somewhen during the winter, not planned yet. As said, it's a long process ! I'll keep you updated.
Je me suis beaucoup amusée.

(français plus bas) It was a old dream for me to learn how to spin with a spindle... I had wool, I had two spindles, I just had to decide when to start. I started yesterday ! A friend gave me some rough wool some years ago. I took away all dirty parts and washed it carefully. I picked up some wild teasels (Dipsacus fullonum) and hanged them to dry for several weeks. I took off all remainings of dried flowers and seeds and I carded the wool with the teasels. I got a fluffy soft white cloud of wool... Then I prepared my turkish spindle and began to spin for the first time ! I used this tutorial and this one (sorry, they're both in french but here is one in english and there are probably many more on the Internet). Well... It's difficult ! My thread is far from regular and I have to stop very often to untangle the wool-to-be-spun... but it's fascinating to do and I'm having a lot of pleasure with this new step in the process of textile making !
