I've always sewn clothes with quickly drawn patterns that I designed myself, planning much more fabric and then draping around myself and removing little by little. It worked... as long as I was going for quite wide/poofy shapes, but I want to learn tighter shapes too and it was wasting quite some fabric. I really need some new shorts (as usual all the ones I can find in stores just don't fit me at all and are super uncomfortable), so I decided to try my hands at mock-upping with this project. I was very scared of the bare idea of making a mock-up, and it proved challenging indeed to design my first "real" pattern in this way, but it's really a fascinating process - and it sure saves a lot of beautiful fabric. For these shorts I drew inspiration from 1820s men's trousers (sooo amazing) and also from the currently again-in-fashion high-waisted "mom" shapes - although I still really don't like the high waist, but I do think the lines on the lower back can be pretty. And yes, I am back here ! I've been so busy the past year (moving country and getting used to a whole new rhythm of life) that I just didn't have time to weave nor sew almost anything. Now it's getting a bit better and I have many ideas ! It's going to be mostly sewing I think, as I am currently more motivated about clothing than weaving - but I also have tablet weaving projects to come ! I am eyeing more and more historical costuming, especially victorian and edwardian eras, aswell as my usual early medieval and Iron Age periods. These will of course be often blended with modern techniques and ideas, to make clothes which are easy to wear every day. I am also planning to share other creative processes, such as building things for my new place and decorative projects for it. In short(s) : it's gonna be varied, inspiring I hope, and as always aimed at learning more about handcrafting and making the world around me a more beautiful one.
