I've always sewn clothes with quickly drawn patterns that I designed myself, planning much more fabric and then draping around myself and removing little by little. It worked... as long as I was going for quite wide/poofy shapes, but I want to learn tighter shapes too and it was wasting quite some fabric. I really need some new shorts (as usual all the ones I can find in stores just don't fit me at all and are super uncomfortable), so I decided to try my hands at mock-upping with this project. I was very scared of the bare idea of making a mock-up, and it proved challenging indeed to design my first "real" pattern in this way, but it's really a fascinating process - and it sure saves a lot of beautiful fabric. For these shorts I drew inspiration from 1820s men's trousers (sooo amazing) and also from the currently again-in-fashion high-waisted "mom" shapes - although I still really don't like the high waist, but I do think the lines on the lower back can be pretty. And yes, I am back here ! I've been so busy the past year (moving country and getting used to a whole new rhythm of life) that I just didn't have time to weave nor sew almost anything. Now it's getting a bit better and I have many ideas ! It's going to be mostly sewing I think, as I am currently more motivated about clothing than weaving - but I also have tablet weaving projects to come ! I am eyeing more and more historical costuming, especially victorian and edwardian eras, aswell as my usual early medieval and Iron Age periods. These will of course be often blended with modern techniques and ideas, to make clothes which are easy to wear every day. I am also planning to share other creative processes, such as building things for my new place and decorative projects for it. In short(s) : it's gonna be varied, inspiring I hope, and as always aimed at learning more about handcrafting and making the world around me a more beautiful one.

I've always been keeping leftovers from my weavings and making tassels out of them. I didn't know why, but I suddenly found a nice use for all these colourful little things : attaching them to a thrifted shawl, which was a bit sad in its muted colours. Inspiration came from some gypsy clothes I digged into recently. I hope you like it !
As I'm currently emptying my stocks a lot (because moving soon), I'm selling this little buddy : 22 € + shipping The tassels are all in wool and handmade (the price is really low considering the hours spent on making them). The shawl is thrifted 10 € and is in a mixed material, mostly viscose and I'd guess some cotton and polyester too. It's very soft and quite warm despite being thin. svenska nedan på sidan - français plus bas EN - I've never been fond of the looks of brocade technique... but I have to admit that the Køstrup (danish viking grave, mid-9th century) tablet woven band has been giving me soft eyes for a while already ! So I decided to give it a try, and right at that moment I got a nice order from Nàl Viking Clothing precisely for that pattern ! Infos for the reconstruction taken from Hilde Thunem : http://urd.priv.no/viking/kostrup.html (note that the original is in soumak technique, very close to brocade) Very thin 'Mora' wool from Borgs Vävgarner, the brocading colours are plant-dyed by Atelier de Micky.

Which means sometimes I make music videos, and for these I like to have nice clothes. Or, in our case this time, a costume. Last november I was recording a tune linked to the huldra, this creature of the scandinavian folklore who looks quite a lot like a fair maid but has several weird features - such as a tail for example. For my huldra costume, I decided to take inspiration from the bunad (folk costume) of the region of Telemark in Norway. I had already several red belts, a fluffy white shirt and a long skirt, but I needed a little vest to complete the costume. With some red thick wool I happened to have in my drawers, I made that little thing and then the huldra was ready to emerge out of the fallen leaves and go play some music in the wild ! A stylish thing, quite in the gothic style, with linen as the main material, to give a natural feeling. During last autumn (already !! I am really not good at posting often here, I apologize), I spent many days, weeks actually, to give shape to that dream. The outer fabric is thick black linen, the lining is plain-weave cotton, dark green lightly dyed brown, painted by hand with patterns of leaves and other vegetals. The clasps are made of recycled wood and wool, respectively carved & decorated and woven by hand. I have to admit I am extremely happy how this project turned out. I was not sure I would manage to give it the shape I envisionned nor to get clean details with such huge amounts of fabrics, but patience and hard work prevailed and the result is really satisfying. I am now wearing it all the time !
Je porte ce manteau absolument tout le temps ! svenska nedan på sidan - français plus bas EN - I've been making some experiments with walnut scales, the variety of colours one can get with these is fascinating ! I am testing two methods : in cold water and in hot water, with different times in the solution, different concentrations, and different durations of oxydation before rinsing off. Everything goes from light beige to dark brown via golden shades, but I got one weird silver - I guess the fiber is somewhat not natural (it was supposed to be wool, but well) !
Silk on very thin wool... just some random patterns to get the hand at it.
Soie sur laine ultra-fine... des motifs simples au hasard, juste pour comprendre la technique. svenska nedan på sidan - français plus bas EN - When I discovered the belt of Eric von Pommern, I got really inspired. The original, dating from the 14th century, is brocaded... but I thought it would render very well in 2-holes technique. And from there, a furious wish of "Iron Age style" took me and I put together blue and orange, a totally new combination for me, and here comes the result ! - thin wool plant-dyed from Micky's Workshop - 24 tablets, 7 hours 22 mn of weaving + preparation and schema - 1.92 m long, 2 to 2.5 cm wide (the width increases regularly all along the band) (am unsatisfied about that) - on sale : 80.30 CHF = 69.80 € = 665 SEK = 657 NOK SE - Erik von Pommerns bälte, ifrån 14-hundra talet, har varit en stor inspiration för mig !
svenska nedan på sidan - français plus bas EN - Just after my first try on floats technique was finished, I felt the urge to weave the same colours together again, but in very thin 'Mora' wool from Borgs Vävgarner (SE). The brown was actually much darker, so the balance of the colours is quite different than from the first band, but I like it a lot too ! This wool is so thin it took me ages to finish the ca 4 meters I had prepared, but I had a lot of fun with as many variations as I could think of. Some rendered really well, others not as much, but all made me learn so much about that technique !
EN - In this cold winter I finally dared to give a try to the floats ! I chose the easiest pattern by Randi Stolz, with 11 tablets (not counting the edges), prepared some gorgeous plant-dyed wool by Micky's Workshop and... fell in love with the technique !
