EN - So this is how the second belt from the "Telemark-family" looks like ! I really like this kind of easy pattern, it's so quick to weave and the result shows a nice simplicity. I learn to put together much more colours than what I'm used to and it's really interesting. I will go on with this type of patterns, for sure ! This belt is also for the company Skoga Obscura.

EN - I am currently working on the costumes for the fantasy-folk music & dance company Skoga Obscura. The concept is to mix different influences : viking, Iron Age, fantasy and bunad (norwegian folk costume), while sticking to very dark colours : black, brown, dark green with hints of red. The bunad of the region of Telemark especially inspired me for the belts, and here is the first one of the family : FR - Je travaille actuellement sur les costumes de la compagnie de danse et musique Skoga Obscura.
EN - I spent these last days weaving quite a special order : a simple Birka pattern in thin cotton thread... for the wedding costume of a friend. 4 meters later, here's the band for the groom, who gets my warm thanks for his order and wishes of happiness !
EN - I'm getting more and more interested in historical patterns, especially the ones from viking time and earlier : Migration period and Iron Age. It's so fascinating to think they have been woven so long ago ! During this winter I'm weaving some of these patterns, all quite simple, here are the newly finished bands ! (Except for the blue Birka, they are available in the shop.) Tiny Oseberg (Norway, 9th century), a very easy thus quick pattern, and so thin ! EN - A pattern inspired by the Birka finds (9th-10th century Sweden, original is brocaded silver on silk), I just love it ! EN - Snartemo 2 (6th century Norway), the little brother of the wonderful and so complex Snartemo 1 (soon to be tested). This one is very easy and relaxing to weave, and I love to add little variations when I change direction.
(français plus bas) EN - I'm currently working on a project which is very nice but takes quite a lot of time : I'm weaving several meters of the Hallstatt 3 pattern in very thin swedish wool (with a hint of mulberry silk, 20% in the green thread). This is an order from a friend of mine, the incredible Runahild from Norway. She's a talented composer, singer and musician, you maybe already know her band Eliwagar (if not, go check it !). I can't wait to send her the two fine bands I've woven and see what she'll do with them !
(français plus bas) It was a old dream for me to learn how to spin with a spindle... I had wool, I had two spindles, I just had to decide when to start. I started yesterday ! A friend gave me some rough wool some years ago. I took away all dirty parts and washed it carefully. I picked up some wild teasels (Dipsacus fullonum) and hanged them to dry for several weeks. I took off all remainings of dried flowers and seeds and I carded the wool with the teasels. I got a fluffy soft white cloud of wool... Then I prepared my turkish spindle and began to spin for the first time ! I used this tutorial and this one (sorry, they're both in french but here is one in english and there are probably many more on the Internet). Well... It's difficult ! My thread is far from regular and I have to stop very often to untangle the wool-to-be-spun... but it's fascinating to do and I'm having a lot of pleasure with this new step in the process of textile making !
EN - After years of wearing a male Viking costume, I finally decided to make a female one ! It will be mostly from south-Sweden with a hint of Slavic, as I'm recreating a woman from Slavic origin who moved to Gotland and then to the swedish east coast (which is close to my real life !). Here you can see the first pictures : the global project (I drew too long arms, I know, I never pretended to be good at drawing) and the shape of the linen underdress. Sorry for the weird colours of the fabric, it's actually a very difficult colour to describe, in-between dark green and grey.
(français plus bas) EN - On the loom these days : Snartemo 2 in missed-hole technique. Norwegian wool in red and light grey. I don't really like this wool : it's very rough, sticks together and breaks often... (since one year I'm testing different pure scandinavian wools). It will be nice at the end though, because this wool gets a bit felted once woven, so the belt will be solid and with an even surface ! This pattern is very simple (even if I've added some variations ^^) so it's a real pleasure to weave quickly without counting ! And I find the result very nice actually... if I didn't have some orders waiting, I would weave immediately more belts with this pattern !
EN - Not historical this time, there is the last production of the spring : a light coat for spring or autumn. I got inspired both by some non-specific asian clothing and by elven style from Tolkien ! Outside in polyester velvet (very rare for me to work with polyester but this fabric is recycled), lining in cotton flannel. Cut in the diagonal. Closing in front, by crossing both sides and knotting. Two big pockets. A bit heavy if not closed, but very cosy, not too warm, soft and practical !
(french below) EN - I haven't been weaving much these last weeks (even months, damned). Because there was a Big Project going on ! I've been making a big map of Scandinavia... by embroidery. Basically chain stitch, so it takes a lot of time (but it's definitely my favourite stitch). On the picture you can see that at that point I was testing different ways of dying the fabric with natural ingredients (coffee works, but isn't precise). Now all lands are brown-ish. I consider myself done with the first part... but please, Finns, Danes, Icelanders, don't get angry : I will complete Finland and add Danemark and Iceland, but only after I'll have taken some rest ;) FR - Je n'ai pas tissé des masses ces temps-ci, parce qu'il y avait un grrrrand prrrojet en cours !
